Get the July cover star’s look!

Model mom, Hazel Joubert and her gorgeous son, Josh are our July cover stars! Stylist Robynn Farrell shows us how to create their cover look.

Robynn says  she chose two of the hottest colours of the season – navy and orange – for Hazel and Josh. For Josh, she started with one of her favourite brands, Cotton On: “Their range is fun and always on point for a future fashionista! My favourite look for Josh was a navy and orange check shirt, paired with the tiniest pair of skinny jeans you’ve ever seen and a pair of retro sneakers.”

Hazel and Josh Cover Look

For his second look, Robynn selected a light-grey hooded jersey, a fine-striped T-shirt and white and navy printed leggings. She went tonal for his third look: A light grey printed tee worn underneath a grey shirt and light grey washed jeans.

Robynn created an effortless seasonal look for Hazel, focusing on soft, feminine silhouettes which are comfortable and functional for a mom, whilst still  on trend. A navy wrap dress was given some bling with orange and gold accessories from Lovisa, while a white chiffon shirt from Poetry, teamed with high-waisted jeans from Cotton On and an Accessorize pendant made for a romantic look. Finally, Poetry’s teal winter knit was teamed with a black midi skirt from Country Road (“a must have for this season”) and more jewellery from Lovisa. “When shopping and styling, I try to look for key pieces that are not only trendy, but  versatile too. It’s important to look for quality items which can be worn in many different ways, for more than one season.”

To complement Hazel’s style, make-up artist Amber Caplan created a look that was natural and warm – perfect for winter. A skin illuminator was used under Hazel’s foundation to add a healthy glow to her skin. Next, a warm matte eyeshadow was applied to create a natural contour on the eye. “I added a few individual lashes on the corner of each eye to give some emphasis for the camera, then finished the look with a nude lipstick with a pink tone.”

3 Reasons why we loved The Winter Sculpture Fair

Tucked away in the Cradle of Humankind in Gauteng lies a hidden gem – the Nirox Sculpture Park – home to nearly 100 sculptures by more than 50 contemporary artists.

Stuck in the city all week one often forgets how beautiful it is on the outskirts of Jozi. So, needless to say we were very excited to leave the city behind and venture into the ‘Jozi Countryside’ for the Winter Sculpture Fair on Sunday. I’m not sure what we expected to find there – perhaps a couple of sculptures in a room you can browse through in about 20 minutes and be on your way again, but how wrong I was.

It was one of the best Jozi day outings I’ve been on in a while – and the kids in attendance seemed to love every minute of it too.

We loved it so much, we rounded-up three reasons why you should take your family there next year:

1. The sculptures are really interesting. They’re scattered all along the pretty grass paths with a beautiful view. Even the kids won’t mind taking a peek at them.

Artist: Cobus Haupt Sculpture name: Self

Sculpture Fair 3

Artist: Pat Mautloa Sculpture name: Horse, 2011

2. It’s a great day out with your family plus there’s a marketplace that showcased some of Franschhoek’s finest food and wine producers. We loved the Chakalaka burger, not to mention the chocolate dipped strawberries and nougat! We were in heaven. You can even take your own chairs and a blanket with and set up a nice picnic spot under the trees next to the pond.

3. The view is beautiful! And there is plenty of space on the vast green lawns for the kids to run around and play.

We hope to see you there next year! We’ll keep you updated with the details!
